Needs Statement
New and practicing radiation oncologists are expected by the American Board of Radiology to maintain core medical knowledge fundamental to the practice of radiation oncology. The ASTRO Spring Refresher Course is designed to update the practicing radiation oncologist, radiation physicist, radiation biologist and resident-in-training by reviewing specific topics covered on the board examination.
Elements of Competence
This educational forum has been designed to narrow the competency gap of medical knowledge, one of the six core competencies embraced by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
Program Objective
ASTRO's Spring Refresher Course has a long-standing tradition of providing an overview of standard practices as well as state-of-the-art updates in technology and research. The objective of the program is to provide attendees with the current management of malignancies most encountered within radiation oncology. At the end of this educational intervention attendees should be able to successfully use the information provided in daily practice applications and in preparation for board examinations.
Target Audience
The meeting is designed to meet the interest of practicing radiation oncologists, radiation oncology residents, radiation physicists, radiation biologists and all other health professionals involved in the field of radiation oncology.
Travel Grants
To encourage participation in this symposium, ASTRO has established a fund to subsidize meeting attendance. ASTRO will award four, $1,000 need-based travel grants for U.S., Canadian and international applicants. The Travel Grant deadline has past. Award notifications will be sent in early March.
